Medical Doctor Approval??

Medical doctor

More and more MD’s are recognizing the value of chiropractic care.

Most medical doctors are unfamiliar with chiropractic and the principles by which it works. Many are still operating under the policy perpetuated by the illegal boycott of chiropractors by the American Medical Association in the United States and the Australian Medical Association in Australia.

On September 25, 1987, a United States Federal judge ruled that the AMA had violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act, and that it had engaged in an unlawful conspiracy in restraint of trade “to contain and eliminate the chiropractic profession.” The judge issued a permanent injunction against the AMA under Section 16 of the Clayton Act to prevent such future behavior.

Fortunately, more and more enlightened medical doctors around the world see the value in chiropractic care.

“Instead of thinking of chiropractic as an alternative or some kind of therapy separate from other health care, we really should consider it equivalent.”1

Paul Shekelle, M.D., Ph.D.
The RAND Corporation

“If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.” This is why I frequently refer patients to chiropractors as well as acupuncturists, massage therapists, osteopaths, or to any one I feel may have something to offer my patient.”2

David Perlmutter, M.D.
Dynamic Chiropractic
July 31, 1992, Volume 10, Issue 16

“I’m a surgeon, and chiropractors don’t threaten me. But they do threaten some of the primary care doctors. The bottom line is this: We’re supposed to take care of folks. If doctors cannot move a patient from one player to the next in a team, we’re not doing what we need to do.”3

Larry Teuber, MD

Careful with those food dyes mom and dad!

Artificial food dyes are banned in the EU and in many countries after research showed they can contribute to hyperactivity, ADD or ADHD.

Germs are like opportunistic scavengers in the dessert. You'll never find vultures hovering over healthy animals, just the sick and the weakened. As long as you eat well, move well and think well you will be dis-ease free and you won't have to obsess about washing your hands all the time.

This is evident in the link provided below.  Read on:

Workers’ Compensation & Return To Work Studies

A number of workers’ compensation studies have shown chiropractic care to be superior to medical care in the treatment of on the job back injuries. Chiropractors have been able to get their patients out of pain and back to work faster and with lower treatment costs.

The Utah Study – fewer costs and days lost
The Florida Study – shorter disability/lower costs/lower hospitalization rates
The California Study – chiropractic patients get back to work sooner
The Oregon Study – chiropractic gets individuals back to work, and fast!
The Australian Study – cost & pain-relief effective with a lower chronicity rate
The Manga Report – back to work, and fast

The Utah Study – fewer costs and days lost

This 1988 Utah workers’ compensation board study found a tenfold savings for mean compensation costs in back-related injuries treated by chiropractors as compared with medical doctors ($68.38 vs. $668.39). To ensure accurate and true results, only those back-related injuries with the same diagnostic codes were compared between the two treatment groups. Also, the medical treatments assessed were limited to nonsurgical medical treatments only.

The Florida Study – shorter disability/lower costs/lower hospitalization rates

This large State of Florida study examined 10,652 patients who sustained back-related injuries on the job. Their findings revealed that individuals who received chiropractic care compared with standard medical care for similar diagnoses experienced had a

51.3 percent shorter temporary total disability duration
lower treatment cost by 58.8 percent ($558 vs. $1,100 per case)
20.3 percent hospitalization rate in the chiropractic care group vs. 52.2 percent rate in the medical care group.

The California Study – chiropractic patients get back to work sooner

In this study, Richard Wolf, M.D. followed 500 individuals sent for chiropractic treatments and 500 individuals sent to medical doctors for treatment. Those who received chiropractic treatments returned to work in an average of 15.6 days vs. 32 days in those who received treatments from medical doctors.

The Oregon Study – chiropractic gets individuals back to work, and fast!

This Oregon study found that individuals with workers’ compensation claims returned to work significantly faster under chiropractic care compared with medical care. In fact, under chiropractic care 82% were able to return to work after one week compared with only 41% in those who received medical care.

The Australian Study – cost & pain-relief effective with a lower chronicity rate

In this Australian study, 1,996 workers’ compensation cases were evaluated in patients who experienced work-related mechanical low back pain. It was found that those individuals who received chiropractic care for their back pain returned to work 4 times faster (6.26 days vs. 25.56 days) and had treatment that cost 4 times less ($392 vs. $1,569) than those who received treatments from medical doctors. Also, in those patients who received chiropractic care there was a significantly lower incidence of progression to a chronic low back pain status.

Allergies are not a disease. They are a state of body malfunction where your body's immune system becomes overactive/hypersensitive to your environment. Give your immune system natural support! From my experience most of my patients get very good results by taking a combination of Allerplex and Antronex from Standard Process Inc. Allerplex acts as a natural antihistamine while Antronex increases blood flow to liver to remove the antigen/allergen. Many chronic allergy sufferers find that they don't have to rely on medicine, or, they don't have to take as much while using these natural alternatives. Stop by or give us a call for free consultation.

Allerplex, with vitamin A and C complexes, supports the body's ability to handle seasonal, environmental, and dietary challenges.

Cholesterol Lowering Diet

There is now ample evidence to confirm that reducing your total blood cholesterol to levels below 200 and raising the level of HDL will significantly reduce your risk of heart disease. The following dietary and... natural medicine program will introduce you to a healthy eating lifestyle that will help accomplish these goals.

What to do

Add Fiber To Your Diet:

Aim for 2/3 cup oat bran cereal per day; either 1/3 cup oat bran and 2 oat bran muffins per day or 4 oat bran muffins. You must also drink 8 glasses of water to keep the fiber soft and prevent constipation. If you can't eat a lot of oat bran, don't despair, use beans (soybeans, pinto beans, navy beans, kidney beans, lima beans, split peas, garbanzo beans, lentils, etc.) One cup of cooked beans contains the same amount of soluble fiber as 2/3 cup oat bran. Example: You can eat 2 oat bran muffins for breakfast and a bowl of chili (containing 1/2 cup cooked beans) for lunch to get your daily quota. Don't be afraid that you'll get bored with this diet. Legumes are among the most versatile of all foods. Try bean burritos, heart bean soup, toss kidney beans in a pasta salad, puree garbanzo beans with pickles and low fat dressing to make a sandwich spread, stir fry vegetables with firm tofu, etc. Dried or canned beans work just as well. Rinse canned beans with water, however, before using to reduce added salt. Good fruit fiber snacks are found in apples, raisins, prunes, figs.

Eat Cold Water Fish:

At least 2 or 3 times per week, as a healthy alternative to red meat. Choose salmon, herring, sardines, or mackerel, which are rich in heart healthy Omega-3 fatty acids.

Reduce Fat In Your Diet:

In general cut down on beef and dairy products to help achieve a diet of less than 30% fat. AVOID FRIED FOODS. Select the leanest red meat cuts such as flank and tenderloin. Trim away all visible fat. Limit red meat meals to three times each week. When possible substitute poultry for red meat, ie: use ground turkey or chicken breast instead of hamburger meat in chili. Choose low-fat or nonfat milk / yogurt and other dairy products. Avoid high fat cheddar cheese and cream cheeses. Instead try ricotta, mozzarella and low-fat cottage cheese. Utilize extra-virgin olive oil in small amounts instead of any other oil or butter.

Exercise 1/2 Hour 5 Days Per Week:

To help raise the protective HDL levels. Brisk walking is excellent, also good is bicycle riding, cross country skiing, swimming.

Read Your Food Labels:

Avoid: (raises cholesterol)
Replace With:
•Saturated fats, coconut, palm, hydrogenated oils of all types
•Fried Foods
•Mayonnaise
•Hamburger meat, pork, etc.
•Olive Oil
•Grease pans with non-stick spray (sparingly), butter not margarine
•Light mayonnaise, low fat yogurt
•Ground turkey, chicken breast (remove skin)
•Olive oil, lemon juice - occasional low fat dressing

“Which Pothole Did It”?

pothole.jpg
It’s a common question Chiropractic patients have… “Hey doc, what do you
think did it to me this time?  Is it the way I’m sleeping, or maybe the
stress at work?”  To tell you the truth, without 24/7 video surveillance
of your every move, it’s difficult to tell.

Trying to determine what specific activity created your Subluxations is
like trying to figure out which pothole in the road knocked your car out
of alignment.  They all contribute to it.  And driving in fear – worrying
about every rock, crack and ditch your car travels over, will only stress
      you more.
Instead of fretting over every scenario that could throw your spine out of
alignment, it’s healthier just to get checked and adjusted on a regular
basis.  Physical, mental and chemical stress is an everyday part of Life.
Chiropractic care simply helps you get past all the bumps you’ll
      eventually hit in the road.

“Checking Your Eggs…”
How many times have you had a minor fender-bender, or a slip on the ice and never gave

it a egg1.jpg
second thought? Maybe your ego was bruised, but you didn't notice any outward signs of

injury.
What happened to you on the inside could be a different story.
After a trauma, things may appear fine on the outside, but it doesn't mean they're OK

on the
inside. That's why we open egg cartons and check the contents for hidden damage before

we buy
them. The same goes for your spine after any jolt. What may seem like a minor bump from

the
outside, could actually create SUBLUXATIONS on the inside. (Misaligned vertebrae that

interfere
with nerve function, and silently diminish health)
The solution? Get your spine checked for SUBLUXATIONS after any trauma, no matter how

big
or small. If your kid takes a tumble down the stairs - get them checked. If your spouse

backs the car
into a fence post - get them checked. If you tripped over the dog on the way to the

refrigerator last
night - get yourself checked too. Life's tough enough without having to live it

SUBLUXATED.

“Harvard Got it Right…”

harvaed.jpg

At first glance you'd think a Chiropractor was responsible for these words. But they were actually
written by a Harvard medical school instructor in the late 1800's. While this belief is trivialized by the
medical and pharmaceutical community today, it remains the core foundation of the practice of
Chiropractic.
Chiropractors humbly acknowledge that "the ONLY thing that can heal the body is the Power that
created it.” The wisdom Dr. Cabot refers to in his quote is called Innate Intelligence by
Chiropractors. It is the coordinating force that maintains our body’s health. It knowingly
orchestrates all steps involved in the healing process from mending a broken bone to putting cancer
in remission. It is in favor of you living, rather than you dying.
The most important job of a Chiropractor is to teach you about this great force and keep you
connected to it. If you want to meet the REAL doctor responsible for healing you, take a look in the
mirror. It’s the one staring right back at you.

“Keeping Your Pathways Clear…”

truck.jpg

Safe driving is best accomplished when the roadways are clear. When they become congested (as
in the case of the past Northeast blizzard) travel is impossible until someone opens them. The same
can be said for the role of your Chiropractor.
You want to drive from point A to point B = LIVE
The roads are clogged with snow = SUBLUXATED Nerve System
The plow guy plows it clear = Chiropractic ADJUSTMENT
You can go back to driving as usual = LIVING
In the end, the plow guy isn't going to drive you from point A to point B. He can only clear the
roads so you can get there yourself. Chiropractic and healing is NO different.

“The Part We Love the Most…”

VALENTINES.jpg

There’s a lot to love about Chiropractic - the science of nerve system function, the art of adjusting
spines back into proper alignment. But the best part is the Principle that supports it all.
Physicians address body parts, psychologists analyze thoughts and clergy tend to matters of the
spirit. But no one profession addresses all three – your physical health, mental health and spiritual
health like Chiropractic. When Chiropractors clear your nerve system with an adjustment, not only
does your physical body improve, but so does your mental focus and ability to express your true self.
Love is the right adjustment at the right time. While the resolution of pain and restoration of
physiologic function are nice side effects of Chiropractic - the thing we love the most is when you
become whole again.

“90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine.”
-Dr. Roger Sperry Quote

“X’s, O’s and Principle 6…”

XO.jpg

"The Packers never lost a game... they just ran out of time." - Vince Lombardi. Coach
Lombardi's quote sums up his unwavering belief in his team's ability to win every game, if given
enough time to execute their winning game plan. Chiropractors hold a similar, unwavering belief in
your body's innate ability to heal.
The 6th Principle in Chiropractic states "there is no process which does not require time,"
including the healing process. BJ Palmer (the developer of Chiropractic) believed that given enough
time and a clear nerve system the body could heal itself in just about any situation. In his mind, the
innate wisdom of the body had the potential to win any healing game if just given a chance. This is
the foundation of all a successful Chiropractic experiences.
If you've been under care for some time and see only minimal results, don't give up. The power
that made your body designed all the plays needed to get you healthy and whole again. It won't lose
the game if you provide enough time on the clock.

“Einstein Got it Right…”

Einstein.jpg

One of Albert Einstein's famous quotes is "Nothing happens until something moves. When
something vibrates, the electrons of the entire universe resonate with it. Everything is
connected.”
Motion is life... lack of motion is death. It’s a foundational reason why Chiropractors adjust
spines - to restore normal motion to joints, mental impulse transmission through nerves and
subsequently, Life throughout your entire body. When you become 'connected,' the Life inside
you resonates positively to your loved ones, your community and your planet.
If Einstein is right, the small act of moving a spine causes the entire universe to resonate
with Life and Health – everything gets connected. And that makes the world a better place.

You can't sleep, your energy levels are low and you're finding it harder to make it through
your day. The specialists insist there's nothing wrong, but you innately feel like something's out
of tune. Maybe it's time to call the Chiropractor.
D.D. Palmer, the Father of Chiropractic, recognized that repetitive physical, chemical and
emotional stress can alter the normal 'tone' within a person's Nerve System (a.k.a. Subluxation).
... This persistent irritation can lead to poor physical, mental and emotional performance. The
solution? Restore normal tone to the Nerve System with specific, Chiropractic adjustments and
better health will naturally follow!
Health is the 'music' that plays when all your cells, tissues and organs vibrate perfectly in
unison – orchestrated by a finely tuned Nerve System. If you're feeling sluggish, weak and tired,
a trip to the Chiropractor is what YOU need to get back in key.

Many of my patients ask me how their chiropractic coverage is going to be affected by Obamacare. My answer is....uh....I don't know! Last time I heard there are more than 13 thousand pages in this legislation. I just hope that the net result is that the profession does not get taken over by a bunch of stooges.

You've probably set goals to improve your lifestyle and get your health on track in 2013. The
question is, are you hanging out with the right people to succeed?
There's a saying that goes 'if you want to be happy, hang out with happy people.' The same
can be said for being HEALTHY. Ever notice the people who hang out at the Chiropractor's
office? They're generally health conscious and excited about Life. Most of them didn't start off
that way. At some point they decided to maintain their spines like other happy, healthy
Chiropractic clients and eventually became happier and healthier people themselves.
If you're resolved to being more sick, more tired and more medicated, then hang out at your
local pharmacy or hospital. On the other hand, if you're committed to renewing your health
and improving your Life in 2013, then spend more time with people who can get you there.
We'll be hanging out at the Chiropractor's office.

"The Triple Innate Dog Dare..."

daree1_1.jpg

You've been given the throw down. Your family and friends are egging you on to try their
Chiropractor. But you don't 'believe' in Chiropractic and doubt it would actually work for your
health problems.
The question isn't whether you believe in Chiropractic, but rather do you believe in your own
ability to heal yourself? You see, Chiropractors don't heal anything. It's the innate doctor inside
you that does all the healing. Chiropractors simply create a better environment (a clear Nerve
System) for that process to happen.
So what do you have to lose? You've been to every specialist under the sun. You hate taking
drugs and the idea of surgery scares you. So why not call the Chiropractor and get connected to
your innate. You'll be amazed at what the doctor inside you is capable of doing - we triple dog
dare you to try it.

dishes.jpg

Neglect a pile of dirty dishes and before you know it, you have a lot of
tough scrubbing on your hands.  Dried sauce turns to cement, bits of
leftover veggies and pasta harden like asphalt.  The longer you wait to
wash them, the harder they are to get clean. Similarly, the longer you
wait to adjust your spine the harder it is to get ‘clean.’  Minor
fixations from daily stress become chronic subluxations.  Chronic
subluxations lead to degenerative changes and arthritis, some of which
you’ll never scrub off – leaving your spine and health more tarnished
after every use. The solution… stay regular with your Chiropractic care,
and you’ll wash up easily after Life’s daily grind.  Wait too long between
adjustments and don’t be surprised if your spine needs more elbow grease
(in frequency of visits, length of time and/or degree of effort) to get
      crystal clean again.

"HAMMERING A BENT SPINE"

Hammering a straight nail, and it drives right into the wood. Hammer a bent one, and it bends even more. The same principle applies to your spine.

A properly aligned spine can withstand the forces you encounter every day (like lifting, standing, bending and twisting). Put a ‘kink’ in that spine (subluxation), and instead of withstanding those forces, your spine succumbs to them-turning normal everyday activities like doing housework, exercising or playing with your kids into occasions for injury, discomfort and disability.

Structural integrity begets normal function. When it comes to strength and performance, your spine needs to be in proper alignment to get any job done safely and pain free. Keep it in shape with regular Chriporactic care and you’ll protect yourself from Life’s daily pounding.

Are you frustrated that Orthodox medicine has not found the answer to your health related issues?  Luckily for you I just happen to be a quack:)

Don't get me wrong, Orthodox medicine is critical in life threatening emergency situations.  HOWEVER, when they cross the line into the wellness realm they become dangerous.  Health is an internal factor that is expressed outwards.  If we become toxic with things (foods, thoughts, lack of exercise etc..) or deficient with things (nutrients, water, exercise, positive thoughts etc..) it will cause our body to go into a state of adaptive physiology not into a state of disease.  Your body will desperately try to adapt to the stress that we put it through.  Just because we decide to eat poorly or move poorly or think poorly and it drives our body into a state of adaptive physiology doesn't mean that your body is creating an error.  If I go into a restaurant and drink beer and eat chicken wings and end up burpy, belchy, gassy, what really is happening?  Did I just develop a disease?  Was this random chance?  Is this due to bad DNA?  Or, is this because of a poor life-style choice?  Hmmmm!!   Your health is YOUR genetic expression of YOUR life-style choices.

HMMM … THINK ABOUT IT THIS WAY!

I had a root canal fixed … then I stopped brushing my teeth … INSANE!

I had my tires replaced … then I stopped filling them with air … RIDICULOUS!

I had my carpets shampooed … then I stopped vacuuming … BUT WHY?

I got over the flu … then I stopped taking my vitamins … HUH?

I had my car engine replaced … then I stopped changing my oil … ABSURD!

I had my hair dyed … then I stopped brushing my hair … FREAKY!

I had my spine aligned … then I stopped getting adjustments … WHAT?
Wait … why is this one TRUE of many patients? We just don't get it!

Do you get it? We hope so! We have a difficult time explaining how important routine maintenance care is for your spine. Any yet, many patients ONLY come to see us when they're hurting! Why would you wait to break down before taking care of your health? Keep your spine aligned!
Why would you stop maintaining anything that was fixed?

Maintenance is CRUCIAL to your CONTINUED HEALTH!!

The Three P's

Pasta, pizza, and peanut butter. We've all been there. For some of us, these three delicious, yet nutritionally limited, pantry items constituted our three main food groups for months, if not years of our 20s and 30s, possibly even our 40s. But there comes a time when the party's over and we need to deal with reality in the form of tight clothes that used to fit nicely, expanding waistlines, and other unwanted signs of overweight and general lack of fitness.
The fact is that each of the three Ps is high in nutritive value when they are composed of organic ingredients. Pasta that is not organic probably is manufactured from processed flour and has lost most of its original nutritional quality. The same is true for pizza and peanut butter. Organic pizza actually covers three food groups - grains, fruits and vegetables, and dairy. Organic peanut butter is high in protein and essential fatty acids. So the three Ps are good for you. The problem, of course, is when they represent the majority of your weekly food intake.
What is a "well-rounded, healthful food plan", actually? The basic answer is provided by the well-known food pyramid. The   federal government (the U.S. Department of Agriculture) has recently replaced the traditional food pyramid with MyPlate, which is simplistic and not necessary an improvement.  The Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) has designed a Healthy Eating Plate graphic which is more detailed and provides better guidance. The general rules are to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, fill one-quarter of your plate with whole grains, and fill one-quarter of your plate with a protein source such as fish, chicken, beans, and/or nuts. The Healthy Eating Plate reminds people to drink plenty of water and to use healthy oils. The graphic contains information on choosing whole grains and how to select healthy fruits and vegetables.
Overall, this tool is an excellent resource and may be used in combination with the Healthy Eating Pyramid, created by the Department of Nutrition at HSPH. When a family takes the action steps recommended by these tools and applies the "five to stay alive" rule (the recommendation to eat at least five portions of fruits and vegetables each day),1 both adults and children will be well on their way to improved health and wellness.2
Eating a well-rounded diet takes some effort. That's a main reason why so many adults default to the three Ps. Pasta, pizza, and peanut butter are not only fun to eat, they are also easy to prepare. But over time, relying on the three Ps for your nutritional needs will lead to problems.3 In contrast, the guidelines recommended by the Healthy Eating Plate, in association with "five to stay alive" principle, will provide a delicious, nutritionally sound food plan. We greatly assist our long-term health and that of our children when we begin to recognize the value of these guidelines, and are willing to spend a little extra time and effort at the market and in the kitchen to put the recommendations into action.

Food for Thought!

Why did the elderly in hunter-gatherer populations remain virtually free of chronic illness? I believe success leaves clues, so, let's investigate. Think of the natives who lived where you live before industrialized, domesticated, white man showed up. I call this race of humans Whitey. Whitey showed up with what? White bread, white flour, white sugar, white milk, and white doctors in white coats prescribing white pills. The Whitey Plague, as I like to call it. The hunter-gatherers did not die from the "Whitey Plague" they died from trauma, infection from trauma, or from starvation.

The Black Plague killed 30 percent of Europe, Chronic illness (diabetes, heart disease, obesity) is now killing 80 percent of the industrial world. Humans are now the sickest people on earth. The current system is NOT working. We don't need more presidential debates about who should pay for healthcare, we need to start debating about what kind of healthcare we should pay for.
We need to stop asking what chronic illnesses we have and how to treat them (diagnosis and treatment) and start asking why we are developing chronic illnesses and how to avoid them (wellness and prevention).

THE INFAMOUS GEORGE CONSTANZA WALLET!!

Remember the "George Costanza" wallet episode on Seinfeld where George pulls out of his back pocket this huge wallet that he could not even close?  I see this about 2-3 times a day with male patients that come to see me.  Their blue jeans have this outline from carrying the wallet in the same area over and over.  They sit on it throughout the day and cannot figure out why they have back pain!
We call this condition "wallet neuropathy".  Sitting on a fat wallet for extended periods twists the spine and compresses nerves in the buttocks and legs, which can lead to inflammation, tingling, and lower-back pain.  Try using a skinny wallet in the front pocket and leave the Costanza wallet locked up in your glove compartment.
